Burkina Faso’s A’ national team has intensified its preparations for the 2024 CHAN campaign with a crucial training camp in Morocco, which includes two scheduled friendly matches against the Moroccan A’ team. The first test will take place on Saturday, July 19, at 17:00 GMT.
Originally planning to hold their pre-tournament camp in Cameroon, the Stallions A’ made a strategic decision to relocate to Morocco in order to benefit from the world-class facilities at the Mohamed VI Sports Complex and superior logistical arrangements.
This shift demonstrates the bold intent of head coach Issa Balboné and the Burkinabe Football Federation as the team seeks continental success at the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship. During Friday’s session, the squad trained on the pristine turf of the Moroccan facility, with Balboné placing a strong emphasis on tactical drills, building team cohesion, and refining their collective rhythm.

The upcoming friendly matches against Morocco’s home-based national side are expected to be vital tune-ups. With just two weeks until their opening Group B clash against hosts Tanzania on August 2 in Dar es Salaam, Balboné sees these fixtures as the final proving ground for his players.
Group B is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable groups in CHAN 2024. Alongside Tanzania, Burkina Faso will face seasoned CHAN participants Madagascar, rising West African challengers Mauritania, and debutants Central African Republic.
The 25-man squad selected for the tournament combines experienced players with emerging local talent, carefully drawn from the top-performing clubs in the Burkinabe Premier League. Each position has been reinforced to ensure tactical flexibility and resilience throughout the month-long tournament.
For Balboné, who is overseeing Burkina Faso’s debut campaign at CHAN, the Morocco camp provides more than just training sessions; it represents a final opportunity to instill confidence, sharpen combinations, and forge a competitive identity ahead of the continental showcase. The team is expected to conclude their camp in Morocco just days before departing for Dar es Salaam, where their tournament kicks off on August 2 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
