Kenyan journalist lands major CAF role ahead of CHAN

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Kenyan journalist Quintine Indeche as the Marketing and Communication Officer for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

This biennial tournament, which features locally based players, is scheduled to take place from Saturday, August 2, to Saturday, August 30, and will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Indeche will collaborate with a selected team of experts from across the continent, tasked with shaping how the world experiences the 2024 CHAN. He currently serves as the Marketing and Media Officer for FKF Premier League side Ulinzi Stars and also supports the media team at the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

His appointment follows a successful stint where he was part of a team of 17 specialists from across Africa at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Egypt in April and May, where he served as Kenya’s Media Officer. This appointment marks a significant step in his rising career in sports media and communication, reinforcing CAF’s commitment to building the capacity of nations hosting continental tournaments.

Indeche, who also serves as a military officer in the Kenya Defense Forces, has a background in football. The 28-year-old was an active player and played as a fullback for Ulinzi Stars before retiring to join the club’s media department.

His transition into sports media was primarily driven by his graduation with a degree in Business and Information Technology from Zetech University in 2020. Indeche’s appointment adds to the recent selections made by CAF for Kenyan match officials who will participate in the highly anticipated CHAN.

In related news, Dickens Nyargowa Mimisa has been appointed as the center referee, while Samwel Mwangi and Stephen Yiembe will serve as assistant referee and Video Assistant Referee (VAR), respectively.
