Algeria’s home-based national team coach, Madjid Bougherra, has taken a significant step forward by announcing a provisional 28-man squad as the team gears up for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The selected players, all sourced from the domestic league, are set to train at the National Technical Centre in Sidi Moussa on Sunday, July 20, for a vital training camp. This camp presents an excellent opportunity for players to showcase their skills and solidify their positions in the final squad for the tournament, which will be held across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The inclusion of top talent, such as Aymen Mahious—who was the leading scorer in CHAN 2022—is a promising sign for the team’s offensive potential. Notably, the squad features strong participation from Algeria’s league champions, MC Alger, and runners-up, CR Belouizdad, each contributing six players. Additionally, USM Alger adds four, while JS Kabylie and CS Constantine bolster the squad with three players each. Representatives from ASO Chlef, ES Sétif, and Paradou AC also round out the squad, ensuring a diverse range of skill and experience.
This preliminary list offers a great foundation, with the potential for slight adjustments based on players’ performances during the camp and in upcoming friendly matches.
Algeria will enter Group C at CHAN 2024, which is known for its competitiveness, facing strong opponents such as Uganda, South Africa, Guinea, and Niger. The team’s preparation and determination during this training phase will be crucial to their success in the tournament.
